About Evolution Hill

Back in 2011 my life was at a crossroads. I was faced with a few big decisions in my life which felt like they would define me and my path moving forward.

I made some big lifestyle changes and decided to trust in the things that were making me feel a sense of accomplishment and more like my true self. Physical activity quickly became a part of that journey. A decade before this saw me running my first 10KM, I still remember how nervous I was (something I still feel before events), after that I worked my way up through the distances right up to the marathon which I first ran in London 2003. After several years of varying fitness and marathon results I then progressed to experimenting with triathlons. Needless to say, I was hooked and endurance events became my thing, leading me to my first Ironman in Wales in 2013 and proving to myself that great things are possible if you commit yourself to the process.

I finished 2013 on a high note and decided to ride that high to see what else life had to offer.  Which is why I left my job, packed my bags and set off for a year of bike touring through New Zealand & backpacking in South America.

Travelling with an open agenda gave me space to explore and reconnect with myself. Everything looked like an opportunity and nothing felt restrictive. I’d be lying if I said that answers came flowing in, but what was happening were ideas and thoughts which could potentially lead to something if I worked on them.

Like all good journeys it wasn’t linear. Whilst looking for the meaning of life I found my beautiful wife, and instead of settling back in the UK, we made plans to move my life over to Canada. It was in these moments that I was discovering that it’s ok not to have everything figured out straight away. Things can evolve.

While we were making plans for the big move, I was biding my time in the UK and decided to really lean into a complete career change. Prior to traveling my work had revolved around sales and lighting design and my heart was clearly in a different place now. That's when I decided to train to become a sports massage therapist. I knew I wanted to work with people in a more meaningful way than sales pitches and business calls and I was becoming increasingly interested in how the body moved and functioned, so this seemed like the perfect service which would leave room for other opportunities should they arise.

What I learned in those two years completely changed everything I thought I knew about our bodies and how we can use them. I was excited to get out there and start sharing that feeling.

Like all evolving journeys you sometimes hit roadblocks and when I moved to Canada we hit a pretty big one. I wasn’t able to join a massage association with my UK qualification and without my permanent residency I couldn’t go to school. So we were in limbo for 2 years. Whilst this period of time wasn’t without its stresses and frustrations I was given the gift of time, and with the support of my wife I was able to create a coaching service. At first it started as an in person thing, managing client's run plans and doing some personal training sessions, but as demand increased, it merged into an online service which is now almost exclusively run focused.

The Canadian massage qualification was earned and now we have the foundations on which Evolution Hill stands. Run + Endurance Coaching & Sports Massage Therapy.

I’m able to love the life I live because I share it with my wife and our son. Will there be more to come? You better believe it.

Services

  • Sports Massage

Sports Massage often translates to ‘deep tissue’ so you should expect more of a treatment instead of a relaxing spa like technique.

  • Run Coaching

Whether you’re returning from an injury, training for your first 5KM or you’re a seasoned athlete looking to shave some time off a 100 mile event, there’s some quality work we can do together.

  • Strength Training

Focus on understanding how your body works and what we are trying to achieve with each movement so that we can minimize risk of injury and make you feel empowered by the chances we take.
